Historic towns in the Harz Mountains

- Excursion destination of the Hotel Forelle -

North of the Harz Mountains there are four old, very interesting towns. These are the World Heritage City of Quedlinburg, the half-timbered town of Wernigerode, the spa town of Blankenburg and the cultural city and capital of the Harz district of Halberstadt.

Quedlinburg

Quedlinburg is known for its half-timbering. Go on a treasure hunt of a special kind in Quedlinburg - a city between past and future. Learn about the history of the old town of Quedlinburg – a World Heritage City – on a guided tour of the city or in the evening on a tour with the night watchman.
During the Christmas season, Quedlinburg is transformed into a festively decorated Advent city. Courtyards that lie locked behind thick walls in a deep slumber for the year are then festively decorated.

Wernigerode

The half-timbered town of Wernigerode should not be missing on your holiday plan. Worth seeing is the beautiful town hall, the beautiful old half-timbered houses of the city center and of course the castle. The castle can be reached on foot or with the Wernigerode Castle Railway, already in the train you will learn interesting facts about the city and its history. On the edge of Wernigerode there is a Baumkuchen café with a small exhibition about the history and spread of Baumkuchen. Only six kilometers from Wernigerode is the Drübeck Monastery.

Domstadt Halberstadt

At the entrance to the Harz Mountains lies the 1200-year-old episcopal city, whose sacred buildings welcome visitors from all directions. The Gothic cathedral with its famous cathedral treasury, the Romanesque Church of Our Lady and the Martini Church with its unequal towers clearly determine the silhouette of the city. Halberstadt has also become known for the "Halberstadt sausages" of the same name, which are now known all over the world.
