Thanks to extensive renovation and construction work, the cloistered rooms from the late Romanesque and Gothic periods are well preserved. Especially in the cloister, in the refectory and in the chapter house, the sublime simplicity is of the Cistercian abbey very impressive.
Two monastery gardens with numerous plant treasures are another attraction. Both were modeled after medieval plans and records. About 260 varieties of plants thrive in the herb garden, which are particularly important as remedies. The vegetable garden shows the former plant food diversity. Together with Brother Grabolin, children go on a tour of the gardens.
In the music exhibition "KlangZeitRaum – On the trail of the secret of music", a time machine, a listening corridor, the sound-light staging of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, exciting experimental stations and instruments from four centuries of music history amaze visitors. The musical cat Michel shows children the exhibition in his own way.
If you don't want to explore the monastery on your own, you can join one of the numerous public guided tours. Especially the KlosterZeiten, which take place every Sunday from April to October, offer a good opportunity for this. Because then visitors go on tour together with the tour guides and explore the retreat, or they learn all sorts of interesting things about the farm and the life of the monks. You can discover the two monastery gardens on a themed tour or take a look behind the scenes of the music barn, which opened in August 2015. The candlelit evening tours are a special highlight in the darker season, when the monastery is very atmospheric, candlelit and romantic. But also a visit to one of the many top-class concerts is highly recommended.

Bergtheater Thale
